On
the afternoon of 28th
July
2003,
i.e. “WORLD HEPATITIS
B ERADICATION DAY” the Trust organized an “Awareness Rally”
by young basketball players to promote awareness about Hepatitis
B amongst the public in Cuttack city. Over 100 basketball
players led by their
coach D.P. Irani along with members of the trust participated
in this rally on bicycle. This began from the
Gopabandhu Bhawan, and proceeded through the main thoroughfares
– Buxibazar, Choudhury bazaar, Chandni chowk, Chandi chhak,
and ended at Barabati
stadium.
A
HEPATITIS SYMPOSIUM
was organized on
28.7.03 on the occasion
of the “WORLD
HEPATITIS B ERADICATION DAY”. In this Symposium, liver specialists
Dr. S.K. Acharya from AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr. V.K. Saraswat
of SGPGI, Lucknow participated as resource persons. This
was attended by physicians, pediatricians, surgeons
and postgraduate medical students from all over the state.
The
3rd WORLD HEPATITIS B ERADICATION DAY was
observed in the evening on
28 July 2003 at
Hotel Surya Kiran, Cuttack. The function was organized by
the Hepatitis-B Eradication Mission of Kalinga Gastroenterology
Foundation (KGF) Cuttack. This was inaugurated by Dr. K.B.
Das, DMET of Orissa who praised the Kalinga Gastroenterology
Foundation for the good work the foundation had done in
the field of Hepatitis-B eradication.
He
stressed that it was important that Organisations like the
Kalinga Gastroenterology Foundation should continue the
good work of educating the public as well as the doctors
in this field. About 200 physicians, pediatricians, media
persons, eminent citizens, bureaucrats and school children
participated in this meet. To encourage people working in
the field of Hepatitis B Eradication, the KGF has instituted
an annual award to honour persons who have made remarkable
contributions in this field. The Director Medical Education

Das gave the
2nd “KGF Sammana” to Dr. N.C. Parija
and Dr. Surajit Sahu of Silver City Rotary Club of Cuttack.
This award
was given to them by the Kalinga Gastroenterology
Foundation for their contributions in the field of spreading
awareness about the dreaded Hepatitis B among the poor slum
dwellers and organizing free Hepatitis B
vaccination
for poor children from the lower socioeconomic strata. This
was followed by distribution of awards to winners of the
poster competition for school children organised
by
the KGF and Rupayan, Cuttack. The awards were distributed
by the noted artist Sri Siba Panigrahi.
